Arroz a la Cubana

Yet another iconic Spanish dish that you find all over the peninsula. This dish is simple to make and inexpensive which probably explains why it is so popular. For some reason children seem to love this recipe. It is basically white rice with tomato sauce, fried bananas, and a fried egg on top. What's not to like?

Ingredients (for 4 people):
  • 400 grams round rice

  • 4 eggs
  • 2 bananas
  • ½ onion
  • Garlic
  • 4 tablespoons of sugar
  • Oil, salt, water
  • Black pepper, laurel y ground cumin

Directions
Fry the rice in a frying pan with garlic and laurel. We add more than twice the quantity of water than rice, a pinch of salt too. Cook on a slow heat for 18-20 minutes. Then remove it from the heat.

To make tomato sauce, we fry a bit of chopped onion with oil and a couple of garlic. Then we add the tomato, the sugar, a pinch of salt and ground cumin and we fry for 15 minutes, till the tomato becomes dense and fried.

We fry the chopped bananas with oil o with butter, and the eggs also. Put all the ingredients together on the rice.
